StreetLife "It's time to smile" Competition
Those winning smiles!
Friday, 19 March
We have three articles in the local newspapers about our "Time to Smile" competition - please go to our Press Release page to read about our winner announcements.
At the beginning of February StreetLife “launched” a competition to try and find the Best Smiling Dogs in the East Algarve. So much doom and gloom was around that they thought a few smiles were needed to lift our spirits. The competition was originally just going to be for local dogs; but other areas in Portugal asked to join in and then a few StreetLife supporters from the UK. Smiles were becoming infectious!
In total StreetLife had an amazing 65 doggies smiles/goofy looks entered. This week three independent judges had the hard job of deciding the winners. A tough decision as all the smiles entered were winners in their own right.
Finally, StreetLife can announce the winners. There were three categories: Best Smile, Best Goofy Look and Best Look… they can all be seen below; not forgetting every dog is a winner in its own right…. Every smile is a winning smile so we also have a “Thank You Smile Awards”
Sterilisation Awareness - Help us reach 500 -
we are nearly there!
Help solve the problem, Be wise …. Sterilise!
You can help us reduce the number of unwanted puppies and strays in the East Algarve. We need you to help StreetLife spread the word. Social media is very good at communicating to those who have mobiles, laptops and Wi-Fi; but what about those who live in the countryside who do not have access to all this technology. That’s where we need your help.
Keep sharing information about StreetLife because every single one of our supporters must have family, friends and neighbours who need help with their pets who don’t know there is help available. We need our supporters to put posters up by their bins, in their supermarkets, restaurants anywhere there is space for a poster pin it! Talk to anyone with a pet who hasn’t had it sterilised. gain!
Please click on the links below to access posters that you can use for distribution purposes....
We now have our ONLINE FORM for requesting assistance with sterilisation so please spread the word – let’s get all abandoned dogs and pets sterilised and end the suffering.

StreetBuddy April Appeal....
Our group has been reduced from 67 to 52 over the last 18 months.... probably due largely to the current pandemic. This represents a huge loss in earnings so please help us to recruit some new StreetBuddies. Click here to read more and please click on the image to see the full poster. StreetBuddies are our special friends, providing our local doggies with hope that there is a life without continuous litters!

The StreetLife Newsletter for the 1st Quarter of 2021 is out! Read about our March StreetBuddy gift, our countdown to 500 sterilisations, what we've achieved, in spite of Covid.... and much more. Click here to access the newsletter.
4 March 2021
We've generated a StreetBuddy newsletter for February which also describes the other fundraising activities that we're trying to organise - from a fundraising point of view, Covid restrictions have obviously made it rather difficult to generate funds. All the more reason why we're so incredibly grateful to our supporters!
ZERO Strays in Holland.....
Continuing with our "Sterilisation Awareness" theme for February, we've looked at success stories in other countries. This week, we'd like you to read about Holland's amazing achievement in reducing strays in that country. With a little motivation, money and compassion, they've overcome the heartbreaking sight of litters of puppies being dumped in garbage cans. The research is done...... the strategy works. Please click here to read the article in English and click here for the Portuguese version.
Let's try to emulate!

Sterilisation Awareness Month - February.....
SOS Algarve Animals, APAR, Cacela Dog Haven and StreetLife joined forces in February to tackle a problem: unwanted animals in the East Algarve. Working together made sense and we're endeavouring to help pet owners on low incomes with the sterilisation of their pets and to end the suffering of dogs and unwanted litters of puppies. StreetLife concentrates on dogs/puppies and SOS Algarve Animals focuses on cats/kittens. A joint project was launched in February with the mission to reduce the number of abandoned and dumped pets.
Our objective was to educate pet owners, government and local Camaras about sterilisation. It is the only way forward in the quest to reduce the number of unwanted animals. February 23rd was World Spay Day - what better way than to have a Sterilisation Awareness Month to highlight a solution to a problem and a fun competition to find the nicest smile.... or goofy look.
Be wise - sterilise!
We were fortunate to have a few news articles in the local press - please go to our Press Release page to read them.
29 January 2021
Each month an email goes out to all of the StreetBuddies, StreetLife QuizWhizzers and StreetLife supporters to keep them up to date with current news and what’s going on.
We thought it would also be a good idea to shares these StreetNotes on our website so our supporters know what’s going on between our Newsletters.
First of all we need to tell you who our January lucky StreetBuddy is for our monthly draw: SB 067 Ben who lives in the UK. This month's "thank you" gift has to be something that we can get to the UK... so it is a Marks & Spencer “Dine in for Two” Voucher, which can all be sorted on line.

"STAY AT HOME HONESTY" QUIZ NIGHT - Saturday, 10 April. As this is currently our only fund raising event, we're so grateful for those who've continued to support us. Without the income from these quizzes, our sterilisation efforts would be severely curtailed. With lockdown easing somewhat, it may soon be possible to meet up but until then, please use the Zoom option to continue to participate in the Quiz as a team...... create your own technology "bubble". Remember to let Brian know if you'd like to attend - firstname.lastname@example.org. Click here for more information.
WINE TASTING AND DINNER - organised by AFPOP, East Algarve - Thursday, 18 November 2021 - 19h30 to 23h30 at the Vila Monte Farm House. STAY AT HOME "HONESTY" QUIZ NIGHT - Saturday, 13 March. Please click here to read more. Our next event will be Saturday, 10 April.
TIME TO SMILE COMPETITION...... The winners have been announced! Click here to see who won our competition to find the best smile or goofy expression. We had an excellent response with 65 entries, making it quite a hard decision for our judges and most importantly, we managed to raise €325.00!
